Today we saw our first sign of this year’s harvest; an old pick-up truck carting a trailer stacked with bins full of freshly picked grapes through “downtown” Dundee. After a loud cheer from the wine bar, we can officially say that the 2009 vintage is upon us!
Although it is too early to know exactly how the vintage will play out in its entirety, what we do know is that this year has been very similar to what we experienced in 2003 and 2006. It has been a very hot/dry summer here in the Willamette Valley and it looks like this weather pattern is only going to continue. What does this all mean? Well, if you like Pinots full of big fruit this might be the year for you, but let’s just wait and see what Mother Nature has up her sleeve…
